PPP NOMINATES YUDHOYONO AS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

Jakarta, May 10 (ANTARA) - The United Development Party (PPP) eventually nominated Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as presidential candidate for 2009-2014 period in the upcoming presidential election to be held on July 8, 2009.

The decision to nominate Yudhoyono was expressed by the PPP party's general chairman, Suryadharma Ali after a consultative meeting of his party's executives at Shangri La Hotel here on Saturday evening.

With various consideration and input received from regional and central executives board of the party, the party then arrived at a decision on nominating Yudhoyono for the 2009-2014 period, he said.

In addition, PPP also proposed for the selection of prospective vice president from the coalition parties in line with the criteria ever stressed by Yudhoyono.

Furthermore, he said, PPP will immediately prepare a strategy to win the presidential election not later than three week after the issuance of party's decision on nominating Yudhoyono.

PPP would also instruct all functionaries and autonomy agencies in all level to bring the decision to a success.

According to Suryadharma Ali, consultative meeting was a follow up of the party's leadership meeting on April 24-25, 2009 which had given a mandate to the party's general chairman to determine coalition with other parties as well as to confirm presidential candidate for 2009-2014 period.***1***
