RICE STOCKS AT CIPINANG MARKET REACH 24,000 TONS

Jakarta, May 11 (ANTARA) - The rice stocks at East Jakarta's Cipinang Wholesale Rice Market reached 24,180 tons which are stored in shops/kiosks owned by big traders, head of the Cipinang market management operator Suminta said.

"The existing rice stocks are enough to meet two-week demand for rice of consumers in Jakarta and its buffer towns of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi," Suminta said.

He said that the rice stocks were enough if there was no supply in the coming two weeks. "The rice supply into the market usually fluctuates."
Suminta said that the average volume of rice entering the market every day reached 2,333 tons while the market's rice distribution to consumers reached 2,353 tons daily.

The big volumes of rice distributions occurred on weekdays. On May 4, 2009, the Cipinang market distributed 2,974 tons of rice while 3,490 tons of others entered the market, he said.

He said that rice traded at the Cipinang wholesale market was dominated by rice of the IR 64 type apart from other types such as local rice: muncul, cianjur, black and white sticky rice.

The Cipinang market procures rice from the northern coastal areas of West Java such as Kerawang, Cirebon, Cianjur, Banten and some from Central and East Java.
