COVID-19: 50 Active Clusters Detected In Bangkok
By Linda Khoo Hui Li
BANGKOK, June 3 (Bernama) -- Thailand’s health authorities detected two new COVID-19 clusters in Bangkok over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active clusters in the capital to 50 in 33 districts.
Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said the two new clusters were both construction workers’ camp in Bang Sue and Ratchathewi.
He added that measures would be taken to halt the spread of infections from these active clusters in Bangkok which mostly were fresh markets, construction workers’ camps and factories.
“Over the last 24 hours, Bangkok logged 995 new COVID-19 cases and 24 fatalities,” he said at COVID-19 daily briefing here Thursday.
Besides Bangkok, Taweesin said health authorities also detected two new clusters in Phetchaburi province and Chachoengsao province.
He said provincial communicable disease committee will closely monitor disease control measures at factories especially the ones producing medical supplies.
“Under the bubble and seal strategy, factories can resume their operations… This strategy has been proven in Samut Sakhon (epicentre in second outbreak),” he said.
Meanwhile, Taweesin said Thailand recorded 3,886 new COVID-19 cases and 39 fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally in the kingdom to 169,348 and 1,146 deaths.
Of the new cases, he said 3,837 were local transmission including 1,230 inmates and 49 imported cases.
On new fatalities, he said 39 fatalities including 20 men and 19 women aged between 36 and 89 years old including 24 in Bangkok, two each in Nonthaburi and Phuket.
