KPU TO ANNOUNCE SEATS FOR POLITICAL PARTIES NEXT WEEK
Jakarta, May 11 (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) will announce next week the number of parliamentary seats won by political parties in each electoral district during the April 9 legislative elections, a KPU member said.
KPU member Andi Nurpati said here on Monday that her commission had announced the number of seats and votes obtained by political parties which passed the parliamentary threshold (PT) on Saturday.
But the KPU in announcing on Saturday the number of seats won by the political parties did not give details on the number of seats won in each electoral district.
She said that the number of seats won by the political parties was to be announced because it would serve as a basis for a political parties or a coalition of political parties to nominate its presidential and vice presidential ticket.
Nurpati said the KPU announced the number of seats and votes won by the political parties on Saturday without giving details on the number of seats won in each electoral district.
Based on the KPU Law No. 20 / 2008 on the stages, programs and schedules of the legislative elections, the announcement of parliamentary and regional representatives council seats would be carried out on May 19-20, 2009 and the announcement of elected House members would be made on May 21-24, 2009.
The KPU on Saturday announced that the Democratic Party came up as the winner of the April 9 2009 legislative elections grabbing 21,703,137 votes, or 20.85 percent.
It said that the Golkar Party finished second with 15,037,757 votes or 14.45 percent, while the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) followed in the third place, winning 14,600,091 votes or 14.03 percent.
According to the KPU, the total number of valid votes counted was 104,099,785 while the number of invalid votes was 17,488,581.
The number of eligible voters was 171 million.***1***
