Malaysia Drawn With Thailand, Palestine In Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The national women’s football team has been drawn with 2018 semi-finalists Thailand and Palestine in Group H of the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers to be held from Sept 13 to 25. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in a statement said a total of 28 teams have been drawn into four groups of four and four groups of three in the draw ceremony held in its headquarters, the AFC House ini Bukit Jalil, Thursday. The winners of each group will qualify for the continent's premier women's national team title in an expanded edition from eight to 12 teams, while hosts India, and top three teams of the 2018 edition – Japan, Australia and China, have qualified for the tournament to be held in Jan 20 to Feb 6, 2022. Meanwhile, in the men’s 2023 Asian Cup in China, the third round qualifiers playoff draw saw Indonesia set to face Taiwan, while Guam will play Cambodia. The winners in the two-legged home and away matches on Sept 7 and Oct 12, will advance to the next round of the qualifiers. The Harimau Malaya squad confirmed their place in the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers after finishing third in Group G of second round recently.
