RI INVITES CHINA TO BDF 2009

Beijing, May 12 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is inviting China to attend the Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) 2009 which will be held in the Indonesian resort island of Bali, in December 2009, a foreign ministry official said.

"We are inviting China to send a delegation to the Bali Democracy Forum. We also asked China to send representatives who will speak and share their views on democracy at the conference," director for diplomatic affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Umar Hadi, said here on Tuesday.

China attended the same forum in Bali last year.

Umar Hadi is here to meet and exchange views on democracy and political modernization with a number of Chinese high officials such as those of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPC).

He was accompanied by executive director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Rizal Sukma and secretary general of the Indonesian Buddhist Council (Walubi) Philip K Widjaja.

Hadi said that the participation of China in the next BDF would be meaningful and had an important role because China was a big country in Asia and had grown as a leading country in the world.

"China is expected to share its experience and exchange views on democracy and political modernization. We hope it would also come to the event as a speaker," he said.***1***
