MARKET MECHANISM TO DETERMINE PRICE OF GAS IN 12-KG CONTAINERS
Jakarta, May 12 (ANTARA) - The government has decided not to be involved in setting the price of gas in 12-kg containers and leave it fully to the market mechanism, a spokesperson said
Director General for Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Evita Legowo said here Tuesday the policy would be carried out in a ministerial regulation on gas supply and distribution to be issued in the near future.
"At present, a draft of the ministerial regulation is already being finalized by legal affairs bureau of the ministry and is soon to be presented to the minister for signing," she said.
But although the price of gas in 12-kg containers would be left to the market mechanism,, the sales prices of the gas must be regularly reported to the minister, she said.
The sale price of gas for a 12 kg container should actually refer to three points, namely government-sanctioned price that needs reviewing regularly, the purchasing power of the public and guaranteed supply.
Based on the draft ministerial regulation, the government divided mechanism of gas supply into two, namely for certain and general purposes.
Most gas users are house hold and micro businessmen who depend much on three kilo gramme gas containers. The sale price of gas for this three kg container was arranged and set by the minister.
The order to distribute the gas through auction or direct appointment is actually based on the territory of distribution.
