PT JASA MARGA READY TO OPERATE SURAMADU BRIDGE
Jakarta, May 11 (ANTARA) - The road management company, PT. Jasa Marga, had expressed readiness to operate the 5.5 kilometers Suramadu bridge connecting Surabaya city and Madura island in East Java province, scheduled for completion on June 10, 2009.
"We are ready to operate and earn fees for operation services," Finance Director of PT. Jasa Marga Reynaldi Hermansyah told the press here on Monday.
Reynaldi said that as long as the selection of the operators was conducted through a tender, his company will participate and try to win it.
Hermanto Dardak, Director General for Road Construction of the Public Works Ministry, promised to complete the construction of bridge before June 10, 2009.
Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto hoped that tariffs will be imposed during the operation of the bridge.
"Accordingly the management agency should have started to prepare the tender, but it could not be carried because of a shortage of officials to handle the tender," he said.
Earlier, the minister said it is possible that the operators of the bridge could be entrusted to PT. Jasa Marga on appointment basis if the management agency failed to appoint an operator.
Djoko Kirmanto said that hopefully the longest bridge in Indonesia would be inaugurated by the President on June 10, 2009.
"All aspects of the toll road have been met," Djoko said.
The bridge is 1,458 meters long and 30 meters wide linking the East Java province's capital city of Surabaya and Madura island.
Although the construction is practically completed, the government still has yet to determine the company that will manage it.
