ASTRA INTERNATIONAL TO PAY 38 PERCENT DIVIDEND

Jakarta, May 12 (ANTARA) - PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) will pay a dividend totaling 38 percent of its net profit in 2008 or Rp870 per share.

Its president director, Jhonny Darmawan, said here on Tuesday the dividend was up 87 percent from that of 2007 or equaled 484 shares.

"When it would be done still has yet to be determined at a shareholders' meeting on May 27. We will make it known after the shareholders give an approval," he told newsmen.

He said the percentage was taken based upon its business opportunity in automotive, agro-industry and mining sectors.

He admitted the automotive sector was bullish with sales down up to 30 percent in 2008. However the agro-indusry and mining sector still had an opportunity to grow high, he said.

PT Bakrie Telecom Tbk meanwhile had decided not to pay a dividend from its net profit of Rp136.8 billion made in 2008.

Its finance director, Jastiro Abi, said the funds were still needed for business expansion namely increasing networks in several cities and the capacity of existing networks in some cities.

"We ask for an apology to PT Bakrie Telcom's shareholders for it," he said.

He said PT Bakrie planned to invest around US$200 million to add new networks and increase the capacity of existing networks in several cities.
"In the first quarter of 2009 we plan to open networks in six to seven more cities to add to 69 cities that have so far had networks," he said.
