Thailand's COVID-19 Deaths Hit New High

By Linda Khoo Hui Li BANGKOK, July 10 (Bernama) -- Thailand recorded 9,326 new COVID-19 cases and 91 fatalities, its highest ever single-day COVID-19 death toll over the last 24 hours after recording 72 deaths on Friday. To date, Thailand recorded 326,832 COVID-19 cases and 2,625 deaths since the outbreak in January last year. In a statement, Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the new cases including 9,307 local transmissions with 2,548 found through active case detection, and 19 imported cases. “Bangkok, the epicentre of the latest outbreak logged 3,191 new cases and 51 deaths,” it said. CCSA said the new fatalities involved 47 men and 44 women aged between 26 and 98 years old. On Friday, Thailand recorded 9,276 new COVID-19 cases, the biggest jump in new daily COVID-19 cases prompting the Thai government to roll out stringent measures from Monday (12 July) to contain the virus. The authorities already began setting up checkpoints in Bangkok and nine others provinces under maximum and strict controlled areas or “dark red zones” today to minimize people’s movement.
