Renault Samsung to resume overtime hours
SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) -- Renault Samsung Motors Co., the South Korean unit of
French automaker Renault SA, said Wednesday its plant will resume overtime shifts
for the first time in five months on optimism that demand may rebound.
Renault Samsung, the second-smallest carmaker in South Korea, canceled extra
working hours in December last year to reduce its inventory amid decreased demand
at home and abroad.
Starting Monday, the automaker's plant in the southern port city of Busan will be
operational for an additional two hours.
"The resumption of extra working hours is a green light following expectations of
an economic recovery," said Lee Kyo-hyun, a spokesman at Renault Samsung.
The spokesman expected sales of Renault Samsung to rise in the third-quarter of
this year.
Renault Samsung reported poor results in April, however, with sales slipping 38
percent to 10,515 units, the company said earlier.
