(LEAD) Bosworth repeats pledge for bilateral dialogue with N. Korea
WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Barack Obama's point man on North Korea urged North
Korea Tuesday to return to the six-party talks for its denuclearization, saying
Obama is also interested in engaging the North bilaterally for a breakthrough.
"We are committed to dialogue, and we are obviously interested in returning to
the negotiating table as soon as we can, but this is not a decision that depends
on us. It also depends on the DPRK," said Stephen W. Bosworth, special
representative for North Korea policy, according to a transcript released by the
State Department. DPRK stands for North Korea's official name, the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea.

Kirk pledges to work closely with S. Korea on FTA ratification
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said Tuesday that he will work
closely with South Korea, Colombia and Panama for ratification of the pending
free trade agreements with the countries so that enhanced trade can help revive
the falling economy.
"In order to ensure a speedy revival of the U.S. and global economies, it is
imperative that we work with our trading partners to further open markets as well
as working with members of Congress and stakeholders on new and pending free
trade agreements in order to expand the free flow of trade," Kirk said in a
statement.

Gov't to keep expansionary stance for economic recovery: minister
SEOUL -- South Korea's economic downturn is showing signs of abating but it is
premature to say it has bottomed out, the nation's top economic policymaker said
Wednesday, pledging the government will maintain an expansionary macroeconomic
policy stance until a full recovery is made.
"We should wait to see further if the economy has really bottomed out," Finance
Minister Yoon Jeung-hyun told a forum in Seoul. "The sharp economic downturn has
been easing and its pace is also slowing down but a downside trend is still under
way.

S. Korea's export volume dropping sharply: think tank
SEOUL -- The volume of South Korean exports has been sinking sharply since late
last year due to a deepening global economic crisis and slumping demand for its
goods, a state-run think tank said Wednesday.
The volume of the nation's overseas shipments fell 15.5 percent on-year between
November and February, with the unit export price dropping 14.3 percent, the
state-run Korea Development Institute said in a report.
-----------------
SEOUL -- Chief Justice Lee Yong-hoon on Wednesday issued a warning to a Supreme
Court justice over his controversial attempt to intervene in district court
trials of anti-government demonstrators last year but did not refer him to a
disciplinary committee.
Shin Young-chul, the disgraced Supreme Court justice, was referred in March to
the top court's ethics committee after an internal investigation panel concluded
that he sent a series of confidential e-mails to junior judges at the Seoul
Central District Court last fall to influence the trials of civic activists
indicted for illegal rallies against the government's resumption of U.S. beef
imports.
