Equestrian: Malaysian Young Riders Set Top-Five Target In WEC Jr 2021
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Five Malaysian horse riders have qualified for the FEI World Endurance Championship for Juniors & Young Riders 2021 (WEC Jr 2021) that will be held in Ermelo, the Netherlands, from Sept 6.
The five are Muhammad Fariz Haikal Mohd Hassan Saari, 21; Anfal Insyirah Abu Talib, 15; Nur Qasrina Amani Zakaria, 20; An Nur Muhammad Imran Eirfan Anuwar, 19; and Muhammad Yusuf Luqman Zakaria, 19.
Team manager Wan Mohd Kamaluddin Wan Yussof said the five riders qualified after putting up impressive performances in four qualifying championships in Germany, France, Italy and Poland recently.
“Alhamdulillah, they performed very well because they completed nearly 100 per cent (of the 120km) for all the championships. They all performed very well in Buch, Germany; Compiegne, France; Torgnon, Italy; and lastly in Kliczkow, Poland.
“We hope that with their excellent performances, as well as that of their horses, they will be able to finish among the top five teams in the CEIYJ2* 120km event. In 2015 and 2017 we fared badly. In 2017 we only had one 11th placing in the individual event. In 2019 we finished fifth, so that is our target again this year,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
The national team, competing under the Equestrian Association of Malaysia (EAM), managed to finish fourth in the 2013 edition.
