Seoul shares open higher on bargain hunting

SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Wednesday as
investors picked up blue-chip bargains, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 9.42 points, or
0.67 percent, to 1,412.78 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Most large-cap shares gained substantial ground with financial shares, which were
beaten down in the previous session, driving up the market.
The local currency was trading at 1,232.79 to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up
9.9 won from Tuesday's close.
