Saudi Arabia re-elected to U.N. Council of Human Rights
New York, May 13, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was re-elected
for the membership of the Council of the Human Rights of the United
Nations on behalf of the Asian continent for three years.
The Kingdom obtained 154 votes out of a total of 192 votes. The
Kingdom was only in need of 97 votes for the re-election process.
Jordan, China, Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan were also elected to the
membership on behalf of the Asian continent.
For the first time, the US joined the Council's membership, while
five countries were elected from the African continent, three
countries from Latin-America and the Caribbean region and two
countries from Eastern Europe.
