SBY-BOEDIONO MORE FAVORED THAN MEGAWATI-PRABOWO : LSI SURVEY

Jakarta, May 14 (ANTARA) - A preliminary survey on the popularity of several pairs of presidential and vice-presidential hopefuls shows the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono duo to have a significant edge over a Megawati-Prabowo ticket.

The survey was done from April 27 to May 3, 2009 by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), the institute's director, Saiful Mujani, said here Thursday.

Of the 2,014 respondents asked to indicate their preferences, 72.5 percent chose the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono pair, and 21.5 percent the Megawati-Prabowo duo.

When respondents were asked to choose from three different pairs, namely Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono, Megawati-Prabowo and Jusuf Kalla-Endriartono, the positive result for each pair was 70 percent, 21 percent and 3 percent respectively.

Mujani said to the question of who of the individual leaders
they thought were most appealing, 67 percent of the respondents choose Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, 12 percent Megawati, 1 percent Wiranto, 3 percent Prabowo, 2 percent Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X,
and 2 percent Jusuf Kalla.

LSI also conducted a survey on 400 voters belonging to the middle class in the capitals of 33 provinces through random telephone calls. In this poll, the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono pair was favored by 79 percent and the Megawati - Prabowo pair by 10 percent of the voters with 11 percent of them still undecided.

Mujani said when the survey was initiated, LSI had not yet received information that Jusuf Kalla would team up with Wiranto and therefore, in the survey, Kalla was paired with Endriartono, a former military commander.***
