KPU SETS UP FACT-FINDING TEAM TO INVESTIGATE MANIPULATIONS
Jakarta, May 14 (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set up a fact-finding team to investigate cases of manipulation of vote counts in several regions in Indonesia.
KPU member I Gusti Putu Arta said to ANTARA here on Thursday that the cases in several regions such as South Nias (North Sumatra), Tulang Bawang (Lampung), South Banggai (Central Sulawesi) and West Halmahera (North Maluku) had to be settled before the implementation of the presidential election on July 8.
"If we have not enough time we will summon KPU officials from the provinces concerned to tell about what we are going to do next," he said.
He said based upon initial reports it was concluded that manipulation of the result of vote counting in the regions was fatal suspectably involving local KPU members.
"In short we will ask provincial KPUs to send KPU members from the regions concerned to the Ethics Council," he said.
Regarding distribution of parliamentary seats for nine political parties that passed the parliamentary threshold, Putu said KPU would soon hold a plenary meeting to confirm it.
In a meeting on Wednesday eight of the nine parties had already received the results of verification of their seat distribution that had been sent to KPU.
One of the parties namely Gerindra Party, had rejected the result of verification because the number dropped.
