OBSERVER: MEGAWATI-PRABOWO DUO HAS BIG CHANCE TO MEET YUDHOYONO-BOEDIONO PAIR
Surabaya, May 14 (ANTARA) - A political observer from the Airlangga University , M. Asfar M.Si, said ae Megawati-Prabowo ticket will have a good chance of facing the Yudhoyono-Boediono pair in a second round of the presidential race.
"If there are three or four presidential and vice presidential pairs, I can predict that there will be a two round presidential race and in the second round, it will be Yudhoyono-Budiono versus Megawati-Probowo," he told ANTARA here on Thursday.
"There will be four pairs, as the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the United Development Party will likely nominate another pair. The three parties may be able to control 20 percent of the seats in the parliament, because PKS has already grabbed 57 seats, PAN 43 seats and PPP 30 seats," he said.
However, Asfar also said the Megawati-Prabowo pair's chance to make progress is bigger than that of the Kalla-Wiranto pair and of alternative pair, so practically the Yudhoyono-Boediono pair will likely face a heavy challenge from the Megawati-Prabowo duo.
"If the Yudhoyono-Boediono pair really meet the Megawati-Probowo duo, each of the two pairs' chance to win the race will be fifty-fifty. In fact, the former pair can possibly lose, if supporters of Kalla-Wiranto and alternative pairs move to support the Megawati-Prabowo pair," he said.
According to him, the Yudhoyono-Boediono pair's chance to win is big in one round, but this pair has a problem in a figure like Boediono, the governor of Bank Indonesia, who will be appointed as the running mate of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)
"The rejection of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the United Development Party (PPP) was not only conducted by the elite of the four political parties, but the masses of PKS, PAN and PPP also refused their elite to approach to SBY. The rejection remains in existence in the character of Boediono often seen as a neo-liberal and pro-foreign countries' figure.
Let alone, he added, PKS, PAN and PPP have relatively educated supporters, so that they will adhere by their parties' stance rejecting an anti-people economic ideology.
