KALLA CONSIDERS BOTH OTHER TICKETS `FORMIDABLE RIVALS`
Jakarta, May 16 (ANTARA) - Presidential hopeful Jusuf Kalla said he saw both the SBY-Boediono and Megawati-Prabwowo presidential and vice presidential tickets as "formidable rivals" in the upcoming July 8 presidential election.
"To us, they are both formidable rivals," Kalla told the press Saturday at the General Elections (KPU) office when officially registering his ticket for the race in July election.
He was referring to the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono and Megawati-Prabwowo pairs of presidential and vice presidential hopefuls.
He said in a democracy , anybody could run for president and and all candidates were formidable rivals to each other.
Meanwhile, Kalla's running mate , Wiranto, said the three pairs of candidates were the best leadership talents of the country who had been screened to contest the July presidential election.
The Kalla-Wiranto pair had promised to build a self-reliant people's economy serving the interests of all people in the country.
"We (JK-Win) are seriously committed to developing a fair and self-reliant community," Jusuf Kalla said in his political statement before registering at the KPU office.
Kalla said that to achieve the national goals, the people's economy should be improved.
"The way to realize the national goals is by improving self-reliant national economy to serve interests of all the people of Indonesia," Kalla said.
He said examples of people's economic activities that needed to be developed were the country's traditional markets such as the Tanah Abang and Klewer markets.
"The people should be folly involved in the economy, and the number of traditional markets should be increased and used to sustain the national economy," Kalla said.
he said people's economy concept should be implemented if the country was to make economic progress as it was the people's economy that had saved the nation in the economic crises in past years.
"If we are elected, we will , Gof willing, keep our promises. The faster. the better. We are the first pair to declare ourselves, to coalesce and to register. The l People's Conscience Party (Hanura)'s election identification number is one and the Golkar Party's 23 so vote for one, two, three," he said. ***
