NORTH SULAWESI HOPING TO ATTRACT 30,000 FOREIGN TOURISTS
Manado, Indonesia, May 18 (ANTARA) - North Sulawesi province hopes to attract around 30,000 foreign tourists this year, a provincial tourism official said.
"The local administration's foreign tourist arrival target is still realistic because many international events are to be organized in this province," Boyke Rompas, head of the North Sulawesi provincial tourism office, said here on Monday.
North Sulawesi has around 423 tourist objects which could attract domestic and international tourists, he said.
From January to March 2009, there were 2,013 foreign tourists who visited the province, an increase of 33.49 percent compares to the same period last year, he said.
The number of foreign visitors in May 2009 was expected to significantly rise because of the implementation of the World Ocean Conference (WOC) and the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Summit on May 11-15, 2009.
The two international events were attended by thousands of delegates from 73 countries and they also used the opportunity to visit tourist objects in the province.
Foreign tourists visiting the province early this year included 612 Malaysians, 197 Germans, and 131 Americans.
"A number of other international events are to be held this year, so there is a potential of more tourists coming here," he said.
Among tourist objects in the province are the Bunaken marine park, Siladen Isle white sand beach, Tangkoko Bitung sanctuary park, Lake Tondano, Lake Moab, Moinit Beach in South Minahasa, and Mane'e in Talaud District.***
