MALAYSIA CLAIM OVERALL TITLE IN PUTRAJAYA CUP

PUTRAJAYA, May 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia swept six titles to clinch the
overall title in the first round of the Putrajaya Waterski and Wakeboard Cup
2009 at the Putrajaya Lake here Sunday.

The Malaysian squad that has been training for the past six months, women's
Wakeboard Novice, Wakeboard Novice (men), Mini Slalom (women), Mini Slalom
(men), Mini Slalom boys and girls Under-10.

Malaysia's Danny Choo, 27, winner of the men's Mini Slalom said competing at
high level competition had given him valuable exposure since his active
involvement in waterski and wakeboard recently.

"I had never expected to win because I am not as experienced as some of the
other competitors," he told reporters after receiving his prize here today.

He added that he would now continue training harder for three more rounds of
the series to be held at the same venue in July, October and December.

"My ambition is to compete in the International Waterski Sports Federation
(IWSF) championships in two years but to achieve that status I must train very
hard," he said.

Putrajaya Waterski and Wakeboard Cup 2009 held today was the first of a
four-serie championship organised by the Putrajaya Tourism Action Council and
Putrajaya Corporation.

Nine countries - Japan, United States, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore,
Cyprus, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia as host, competed in the championships.
