MIRANDA TEMPORARILY TAKES OVER DUTIES OF BI GOVERNOR
Jakarta, May 19 (ANTARA)- Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Miranda S Goeltom said she would temporarily take over the duties of the bank's governor following Boediono's resignation.
"Soon after pak (Mr) Boed (Boediono, the former BI governor) registered himself with the General Elections Commission (KPU) as a vice presidential candidate I took over pak Boed's duties temporarily in line with the law (Law Number 3 of 1999 on BI)," she said at a press conference with Boediono here on Tuesday.
She said that her position would be made official soon after Boediono's resignation was approved.
She said based on Article 50 of the Law on BI the Head of State would appoint a replacement after the governor's resignation was approved but so long as the replacement was not yet available the position would be filled by the senior deputy governor.
"The terms and regulation are clear. So if pak Boed's resignation is approved automatically the senior deputy government will take over temporarily," she said.
Minister/state secretary Hatta Radjasa meanwhile said at the palace that day that the presidential decree to approve Boediono's resignation was now under process.
"It is still being processed. We are still preparing it (the decree)," he said.
Boediono submitted his resignation letter directly to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on May 15, 2009, following his nomination to be Yudhoyono's running mate for the presidential election later in July 8.
Hatta said President Yudhoyono would immediately issue the decree and seek Boediono's replacement for submission to the House of Representatives for approval.
