PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO RECEIVES 14 BODIES OF HERCULES CRASH VICTIMS

Jakarta, May 21 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono accompanied by First Lady, Ani Yudhoyono here Thursday received the the remains of 14 victims of the Air Force Hercules plane which crashed in Magetan, East Java, Wednesday.

The president arrived at the Halim Perdanakusumah military airport at 2.10 p.m. and offered his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

"I once again on behalf of the government, state and myself, offer the deepest condolences, and may all the bereaved families be strong and patient in facing this disaster," the president said, before leaving for East Java on a working visit.

The C-130 Hercules crashed into a rice field, and hit a number of houses a few minutes before it was scheduled to land at the Iswahyudi military airbase in Madiun, East Java.

The dead included 11 crew members, a high-ranking Air Force officer Commodore Harsono and his wife, and three residents of Geplak village whose houses were hit by the crashing Hercules.

President Yudhoyono said the nation mourned over the dead victims of the Hercules plane which crashed in Geplak village in Magetan, East Java, at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday.
After expressing his condolences, the president accompanied by Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Subandrio joined the bereaved families in receiving the 14 bodies of the victims which arrived from the Iswahyudi military airport in Madiun.

The 14 bodies arrived at Jakarta's Halim Perdanakusumah airport at 2.30 p.m. local time.

Early Wednesday, the Hercules plane left Halim Perdanakusuma military airbase in Jakarta at 5.30 a.m. carrying 110 passengers and 11 crew members to Surabaya.***
