ONLY 4.5 PCT OF W SUMATRA ROADS ASPHALTED: GOVERNOR
Padang, Indonesia, May 23 (ANTARA) - Asphalted roads in West Sumatra province have so far only reached a total length of 571.4 kilometers or 4.5 percent out of a total of 15,071.61 kilometers of roads in the province, the region's governor said.
Some 5,118.03 kilometers or 40.29 percent of the total length of roads have yet to be asphalted, West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fauzi said here Saturday, adding that 2,867.95 kilometers or 22.57 percent were covered with gravel.
The governor said further that some 4,937.62 kilometers of roads were covered with "hotmix" asphalt or 31,78 percent and the roads covered with stones reached 97.51 percent.
He said until the end of 2008 the total length of well constructed roads had reached 78.15 percent. ***
