SBY-BOEDIONO PAIR SETS MORE REASONABLE GROWTH TARGET: OBSERVER
Jakarta, May 24 (ANTARA) - Democratic Party presidential aspirant Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)'s economic growth target of 7 percent is more realistic than those of other presidential tickets, an economic observer said.
Economist Kodrat Wibowo of the Bandung-based Padjadjaran University made the remarks commenting on the economic growth targets set by the three presidential candidates in the upcoming presidential elections on July 8, 2009.
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) of the Democratic Party is more cautious in setting his economic target since the beginning, Wibowo said adding that an ideal economic target was 6.5 percent.
"With 6.5 percent, we can at least proceed with a stable economy, without any drastic increase or sharp drop," Kodrat Wibowo said.
Earlier, SBY and Boediono predicted an economic growth of 7 percent in the coming five years, Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto 8 percent while Megawati and Prabowo 10 percent.
Sjukrianto Yulia, supporter of Gerindra leader Probowo Subianto who paired up as running mate of Megawati Soekarnoputri of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), said that the 10 percent growth target set by the Mega-Pro (Megawati-Prabowo) pair was reasonable.
He said that the target was achievable by increasing public consumption, investment, government expenditures and competitive edges of domestic products.
"We have to improve the quality of our products so that they would be able to compete in the world market. We have also to restrict imports," he added.
Presidential pair-up Jusuf Kalla of the Golkar Party and Wiranto of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), set an 8 percent economic growth for 2011.
The JK-WIN ticket argued that the economic growth of 8 percent could be achieved by accomplishing the on-going kerosene-to-gas conversion program in 2010 and the 10,000 MW mega power project. These two projects alone could save about Rp200 trillion.
SBY-Boediono presidential pair set its economic growth at 7 percent in 2014. Yudhoyono set a lower target in view of the global economic crisis which was still in the recovery stage.
The Mega-Pro pair sets the 10% growth with a program to boost development in the agricultural sector where about 7 million hectares of new rice fields would be opened.***2***
