TAIWANESE TOURISTS TO BALI DOWN 24 PCT

Denpasar, May 24 (ANTARA) - The number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Bali in the year to end March fell 24.01 percent to 28,066 from the same period a year earlier.

"Taiwanese tourists accounted for 5.72 percent of the total tourist arrivals in Bali in the first quarter of 2009 which reached 490,454," Head of the Bali Office of the Central Statistics Board (BPS) Ida Komang Wisnu said here on Sunday.

He said the number of tourists from Japan in the January-March 2009 period fell 11.63 percent, South Korea 8.82 percent, the United Kingdom 16.04 percent and the United States 7.05 percent, while those of Australia rose 24.85 percent, China 55.62 percent, Malaysia 19.85 percent, Russia 6.33 percent, and France 19.02 percent.

Overall, the first-quarter tourist arrivals in Bali rose 4.28 percent from the same period last year, he said.
