OIC Chief and President Assad discuss the situation in Al-Quds

Damascus, May 25, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization of
the Islamic Conference (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu met Syrian
President Bashar al-Assad here yesterday.

The meeting was held on the fringes of the on-going 36th Session of
the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the OIC Member States.

During the meeting, the Syrian President extolled the unstinting
efforts deployed by the Secretary General in light of the
circumstances and challenges confronting the Muslim world, on top of
which figures the Palestinian issue.

He pointed out that the Palestinian issue witness negative
developments embodied by internal divisiveness, the formation of a
right-wing Israeli government that obstinately rejects the principles
of the peace process, as well as the incessant attacks waged by
Israel on al-Quds city and the Israeli attempts to Judaize it.

President Al-Assad highlighted Syria's support, both at the
government and popular levels, for the OIC's endeavors, stressing
that Syria will, in its capacity as Chairman of the 36th CFM Session,
strive to foster cooperation with the OIC in a bid to achieve planned
objectives, articulate a unified Islamic stand towards Islamic
issues, and enhance the role of the OIC in the political, economic,
social and cultural fields.

For his part, the Secretary General expressed his deep appreciation
for the Syrian leadership's hospitality and meticulous organization
of the ongoing CFM Session.

He reviewed with President Assad the situation and developments
unraveling in al-Quds, as the city faces unremitting violations by
Israel and the OIC's efforts to tackle the Judaization campaign
targeting the city, according to a press release of the OIC issued
this morning.
