Parliamentary committee denounces N.K. nuke test in resolution
SEOUL, May 25 (Yonhap) -- The National Defense Committee of South Korea's
National Assembly adopted a resolution Monday urging governments around the world
to take prompt and stern countermeasures against North Korea's latest nuclear
weapons test.
In the resolution issued after an emergency meeting over the North's nuclear
test, the parliamentary committee said that Pyongyang must assume full
responsibility for all incidents arising from its provocative nuclear test.
"We are strongly condemning North Korea's nuclear test conducted today as an
obvious provocation threatening to destroy the international peace order," said
the resolution.
"We're making it clear that North Korea must assume full responsibility for all
incidents to be caused by the latest provocation ... We are sternly warning we
will take prompt and stern countermeasures against any further provocation by the
North."
North Korea said it "successfully" conducted its second nuclear test on Monday,
following its first one in October 2006.
The resolution then urged governments worldwide to closely cooperate to take all
possible measures to promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
