DEAD STUDENT'S FAMILY DOUBTS HANDPHONE VIDEO RECORD
Singapore, May 26 (ANTARA) - The family of the late David Hartanto Widjaja doubted the handphone video record made by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student Lin Xenxing depicting David's position before allegedly falling to his death.
"David's face and posture is not like that. That is not David," David's mother, Tjai Lie Kiun, said after watching the video record at a court session here on Monday.
The video record showed David sitting on the edge of a roof at a bridge linking Block S-1 of the campus before he jumped to his death.
Lin said in her testimony that on Monday, March 2 2009 she used her cellphone to take pictures from the fifth floor of a man in yellow dress later known as David who had jumped to death.
She said when she contacted a security guard she saw David jump by moving his position with his hands.
Although the record was shown several times neither Tjai nor Hartono Widjaja (David's father), William Hartanto Widjaja (David's brother) and Kusuma Widjaja (David's uncle) were convinced.
"The pictures could have been engineered to show that David had jumped from the bridge," William said.
Kusuma even said he did not believe David could sit a while at the edge of the roof which must be very slippery and narrow.
"I once tried to climb to the roof. It is structured aslant while its tip is narrow. It is impossible for men like David to be in that position," he said.
The session that day also heard testimony from Yuliana Binte Ahmad, a kitchen worker of the university who declared losing a knife in the middle of February 2009.
She said she knew the knife well from its handle and it was precisely like that one used by David to stab Prof Chan Kap Luk shown as evidence.
Hartono Widjaja said Lin's video record and Yuliana's testimony were mere a conspiracy to make David a victim and not part of Singapore's effort to unveil the truth and find justice.
Therefore "whatever the court's decision will be later I am thinking of seeking justice in an international court," he said.
Initially the trial was scheduled to last only five days until Tuesday (May 26) but the fact was that it would be adjourned until June 17, 18 and 25, 2009 to hear more witnesses to be presented by David's family.
"We will present an independent forensic digital expert from Jakarta to check Lin Xenxing's video record," William said.
