INDONESIA HOLDS CULINARY WEEK IN MOSCOW
London, May 26 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian embassy in Moscow is holding an Indonesian Culinary Week in Moscow on May 25-30, 2009 as part of efforts to reach the target of 100,000 Russian tourist arrivals in Indonesia.
The culinary week was organized in cooperation with the cultural and tourism ministry, the National Export Development Agency (BPEN), Etihad Airways, Aerowisata travel bureau, and several local media, M Aji Surya of the Indonesian embassy, told ANTARA correspondent in London on Tuesday.
The event was officially opened by Hamid Awaludin, Indonesian ambassador to Russia, and attended by a number of Russian businessmen and officials.
Ambassador Awaludin in his opening remarks said that food was a reflection of a nation's culture, tradition, and wealth. The food of Indonesia which had 300,000 ethnic groups and consisted of 17,000 islands was very rich in variety.
Last year, around 65,000 Russians visited Indonesia as tourists. During January-March 2009, some 20,000 Russian tourists visited Bali and stayed in five-star hotels, according to data from the Indonesian embassy in Moscow.
Two Indonesian chefs, Lanang Dwija Putra and Lahmudin, prepared Indonesian foods called among other things, 'The Beauty of Indonesia', 'The Magic of the Spice Islands', 'The Amazing Sumatra', 'The Secret of West Java, Bali and Lombok'.
