SURVEY REVEALS SUPPORT FOR JK-WIN INCREASING: GOLKAR EXECUTIVE

Pontianak, W Kalimantan, May 26 (ANTARA) - The hard work of Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto as a presidential and vice presidential pair has begun to gain increasing support, Golkar Party associate chairman Syamsul Maarif said.

"Surveys made recently show that the JK - WIN pair has increasingly gained support after Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto declared themselves as a presidential ticket for the upcoming July 8, 2009 race," Maarif said here on Tuesday.

He said one survey carried out by Golkar at first indicated support for Jusuf Kalla was less than 10 percent while another presidential hopeful won over 50 percent of the respondents' support.

"But a later survey has shown that the difference between public support for Kalla and that for the other hopeful has shrunk to only about three percent," he said.

He said the JK-WIN pair is gaining increasing support, for example, from a number of retired generals, or cadres whose parties support the JK-WIN presidential ticket.

Support had also came from the chairperson of the BKMT religious studies council Tuti Alawiah.

The JK-WIN pair reflects a national pair, a combination of cultures, ethnicities and languages.

Kalla's father was the founder of Nahdhatul Ulama in South Sulawesi while his mother was a cadre of the Aisyiyah Muhammadiyah. His wife is a native of West Sumatra while Wiranto who is a Javanese has a wife who is from Gorontalo in Sulawesi.***1***
