NUMEROUS LAND CERTIFICATES DESTROYED IN OFFICE BUILDING FIRE
Cianjur, W Java, May 26 (ANTARA)- Fire gutted the main building of Cianjur's National Land Affairs Agency (BPN) here early Tuesday causing the destruction of hundreds of thousands of land certificates, eye-witnesses said.
There was no immediate report on fatalities in the fire but material losses were estimated to reach about one billion rupiah, the witnesses said, adding the fire was believed to have been triggered by a power short circuit.
Only the meeting room, official archives room, prayer room, and a room for settling disputes and conflicts had remained intact in the incident.
In the meantime, Dede Sulaiman, Jefri and Jali, the BPN's security guards failed to extinguish the fire because the office building was locked.
The blaze was eventually put down by the Cianjur district's fire brigade. ***4***
