NORTH SUMATRA KPU CHAIRMAN TO MEET U.S. GOVT INVITATION

Medan, Indonesia, May 27 (ANTARA)- The North Sumatra's chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Irham Buana Nasution will leave for the United States at the invitation of the US government for a comparative study program.

"The program will last 14 days, excluding the time Irham spent in leaving and returning to Indonesia," he said here on Tuesday, adding that departure to the US was scheduled on June 28, 2009.

He decided to meet the invitation despite KPU's tight preparations for the July 8 presidential and vice presidential race.

If he meets the invitation, he will definitely be still abroad on July 8.

Nasution said it was difficult to reject the invitation because he was the only active KPU member in the country who had been invited by the U.S. government.

"It is a very good and rare opportunity to learn about the general election and its system there (the U.S.)," Nasution said, explaining that he had assigned Turunan B Gulo, a local KPU member represent him during his absence. ***
