RI TO EXPORT 650 TONS OF RICE UNTIL JUNE
Jakarta, May 28 (ANTARA) - Indonesia expects to export up to 650 tons until June this year.
The president director of the National Logistics Agency (Bulog), Mustafa Abubakar, said here on Wednesday so far it had already exported around 500 tons.
"We export rice particularly to Turkey and then Syria and New Zealand," he said.
He said the price of rice at home had increased a bit because of the exports.
He said supply had also increased because production had risen as farmers had been motivated.
He said Bulog needed to increase its outlets to step up distribution of rice. "Bulog does not only collect but also distribute rice for the poor," he said.
This year Bulog will distribute 3.3 million tons of rice for the poor totalling between 17.5 and 18.5 million across the country through 49 outlets.
"If the outlets are increased distribution of rice for civil servants and military and police members may be reopened. They may bring various advantages," he said.
Mustafa hoped the increase in outlets would raise Bulog's capacity to collect rice up to 15 percent from only eight to ten percent right now.
"With the outlets for rice exports we will not have to spend money for maintainance as rice could be immediately shipped," he said.
