CANDIDATES AGREE ON THEMES. MONDERATORS FOR DEBATE

Jakarta, May 28 (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) and campaign teams of candidates for the presidential race on July 8 agreed on the themes and moderators for a scheduled debate among the candidates.

The five themes agreed upon in a meeting on Thursday were not far from the themes the KPU had proposed earlier. Two new themes however have been included namely on unitaray state, democracy, regional autonomy and character building.

"Debate for presidential candidates will be done three times while for vice presidential candidates two times," KPU member I Gusti Putu Artha said after the meeting that lasted for around five hours.

The debate for presidential candidates will be held on June 18, 25 and July 2 while for vice presidential candidates on June 23 and 30.

The first presidential debate on June 18 would raise the theme of realizing good and clean governance as well as rule of law and would be moderated by political observer Anies Baswedan.

The second presidential debate to be led by economist Aviliani would take up poverty and unemployment as its theme.

The third presidential debate on unitary state, democracy and regional autonomy on July 2 will be led by Pratikno, a lecturer of state University of Gajahmada.

The first vice presidential debate on June 23 to be led by Komaruddin Hidayat, rector of state Syarif Hidayatullah Islam University, will be about character building while the second one on June 30 about the quality of life of Indonesians human will be led by Fahmi Idris, the general chairman of the Indonesian Medical Association.

" The time allocated for each session is 2x60 minutes with 90 minutes dedicated for a debate," Putu said.

Candidates will first present their vision, mission and program for seven to 10 minutes before receiving questions by the monderator which they have to answer within 30 minutes.

As hosts, KPU and the campaign teams agreed to desginate several television stations to broadcast the event.

Representing campaign teams of the presidential candadites in the meeting with KPU that day were Burhanuddin Napitupulu (the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto ticket), Firman Daeli Jay (the Megawati Soekarnoputri-Prabowo Subianto ticket) and Milton Pakpahan (the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono ticket).
