KPU POSTPONES DECLARATION OF PEACEFUL CAMPAIGNING
Jakarta, May 30 (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) decided to postpone the declaration of peaceful campaigning from June 2 to June 10 to be able to make better preparations.
"The event had been discussed at a meeting and it was agreed it would be held on June 10 so that we could prepare better and all candidates could attend it," KPU official I Gusti Putu Artha said here on Saturday.
He denied that the decision was made to adjust with the schedule of one of the presidential candidates, saying it was done merely to provide more time for preparations.
"June 2 is closer. It is feared if it is done without good preparations the target will not be met namely political education," he said.
Putu said the declaration would be done indoor and highlighted by traditional art performances. Each pair of candidates will be given ten minutes to speak at the event for around 10 minutes.
According to KPU Regulation Number 45/2009 on stages, schedules and presidential election programs campaign is scheduled on June 2 to July 4. Rallies meanwhile are scheduled from June 11 to July 4.
To assure that rallies would run orderly KPU had already set the schedules for them in 33 provinces.
According to the rally schedules already agreed upon each candidates' campaign team is given an opportunity to conduct rallies everyday in 11 provinces. So in 24 days each candidates' campaign team will conduct rallies eight times in every province in the country.***
