KPU WANTS BETTER ELECTION PROCESS
Banjarmasin, Indonesia, June 1 (ANTARA) - The upcoming July presidential election is expected to run in a better way than the recent legislative elections, General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairman Hafiz Ansyari said.
Ansyari made the statement at a function to give technical counseling (bintek) and familiarization of voting and ballot counting process at Arum Hotel here on Sunday night.
"With technical counseling and familiarization, the upcoming presidential election is expected to run in a better way than the previous election," the KPU chairman said.
The Antasari State Islamic Institute (IAIN) alumni had called on all KPU members across the country and abroad to work more optimally in order to make the election run better.
"Only with optimal work supported by meticulousness, neatness, and higher standard of discipline can the KPU overcome public accusations that the 2009 elections were worse than the previous ones," Ansyari said.
He also asked KPU members who were present at the technical counseling and familiarization to carry out their tasks more carefully in the presidential election.
"It is because the July presidential election will be a test of the KPU's image in the eyes of the domestic and international communities," Ansyari said, adding that the people should not compare the 2009 elections with the previous ones.
He said the technical counseling and the familiarization of voting and ballot counting process in the presidential election was conducted in an effort to avoid the KPU's image from being tarnished.
The technical counseling about the voting and ballot counting process was participated in by KPU members from the provinces of Banten, Jakarta, East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.***
