LIPI TO HOST INT`L WORKSHOP ON RENEWABLE ENERGY
Jakarta, June 1 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) is to host an international workshop on development of research on renewable energy sources here next June 9-11, a spokesman said
Participants from Britain, the Netherlands, France, Japan, India, Pakistan, and Egypt are expected to attend the three-day workshop to be held in Ancol, North Jakarta.
"The workshop is linked to ASEAN's participation in the Sub Committee on Material Science and Technology (SCMST) and Sub Committee on Non Conventional Energy Research (SCNCER)," said Prof Masbah Rotuanta Tagore Siregar, chairman of the Advanced Material for New and Renewable Energy (AMNRE) committee, said here on Monday.
He said the workshop would be sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Association Industry Technology and Research Organization (WAITRO).
The main objective of the international workshop, to be hosted by LIPI's Physics Research Center, is to gather ideas on the Advanced Material for New and Renewable Energy among ASEAN and other countries.
Siregar said the development of new and renewable energy systems was intended to produce energy with zero pollution.
"The workshop is important not only as a contribution to the solution of the energy problem but also to the international issues of climate change and global warming," Siregar said.
He added that the workshop would be bring together researchers from ASEAN to obtain information from other developed countries, and to improve international networks in renewable energy research.
Meanwhile, AMNRE Committee secretary Dr Bambang Prihandoko said LIPI's Physics Research Center itself had conducted various kinds of research on advanced materials for new and renewable energy such as fuel cell energy, lithium dry batteries, solar cells, hydrogen energy, and other hybrid energy sources.
"The research and development in new and renewable energy needs materials with certain superiority such as solar energy with its main component, the solar cell (Photovoltaic-Cell)," Bambang said.
