RI'S 2009-2010 ECONOMIC GROWTH DETERMINED BY DOMESTIC FACTORS

Jakarta, June 2 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's economic growth in 2009 and 2010 will be determined by its capability to protect domestic factors which support economic growth, a minister said.

"It's different from what happened three years ago when the global factor cold boost our economic growth," Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said here on Monday.

The agricultural sector would be a sector which grew soundly, in addition to the sectors of telecommunication, transportation and utilities such as gas, electricity and water.

In the first quarter of 2009, the agricultural sector grew 4.79 percent, from 4.74 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008. The transportation and telecommunication sectors grew 16.68 percent, from 15.82 percent. The electricity, water and gas sectors grew 11.42 percent , from 9.34 percent, and the construction sector grew 6.33 percent, from 5.67 percent.

The growth of the processing sector was still negative, namely only 1.62 percent, compared to 1.85 percent in the fourth quarter 2008, the trade sector only 0.57 percent from 5.55 percent previously, and the finance sector 6.27 percent from 7.42 percent.

Meanwhile, from the supporting components of the economic growth, the household consumption growth rate in the first quarter 2009 was quite high, namely 5.84 percent, the government consumption 19.35 percent, investment 3.51 percent, the exports was minus 19.1 percent, and the imports minus 24.1 percent.

"The household consumption growth rate in the first quarter of 2009 is quite high, namely over 5 percent, however the question is whether it will be sustainable in 2009 until 2010," he said.

The government has set a target of economic growth rate at 4.0 until 4.5 percent. The economic growth is contributed by the household consumption growth of 3.5 percent to 4.0 percent, the government consumption growth 7.7-8.6 percent, investment growth 4.1-5.5 percent, export minus 7 to minus 5, and import minus 9.6 until minus 7.0 percent.
