INDONESIA'S COAL EXPORTS REACH 3.44 BILLION DOLLARS

Jakarta, June 1 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's coal exports in the Jan-Apr 2009 period increased by 21.31 percent compared to last year's same period reaching only 2.83 billion dolllar, now reached 3.44 billion dollars.

"The increase in the export value was thanks to the price of the black gold that increased in the last four months, after declining by the end of last year," Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics Rusman Heriawan said in Jakarta Monday.

He said that while in terms of value of the coal mostly coming from the mines in Kalimantan had increased, but in volume dropped in the Jan-Apr 2009 period by 53.5 million metric tons, or a drop of 22 percent.

The thousands of metric tons of coal were produced from East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan.

"The economy of the world had started improving, so that a number of export farm products had started to increase," he said.

The other export commodities with good prospects are CPO the export of which in the Jan-Apr 2009 period reached 5.57 million tons, up by 4.3 percent compared to last year's 5.34 million tons.

The CPO exports up to April 2009 reached 2.87 billion dollars, down 44.6 percent compared to the 5.19 billion dollars in last year's same period.

Cummulatively, Indonesia's exports in the Jan-Apr period reached 31.49 billion dollars, down 29.51 percent compared to that in last year's same period, while non-oil exports reached 26.90 billion dollars, down 22.68 percent.

Indonesia's non-oil/gas exports to China reached the biggest value of 830.3 million dollars, followed by the United States with 768.4 million dollars, and Japan 687.4 million dollars, and the three gave a contribution of 31.73 percent, while the exports to the European Union (27 countries) reached 869.3 million dollars.
