YUDHOYONO, KALLA COORDINATE LEAVE SCHEDULES FOR CAMPAIGNING

Jakarta, June 2 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla have coordinated with each other on the schedules of their leaves to campaign for the July 8 presidential election.

Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa said here on Tuesday he would submit the schedules of their leaves to the General Elections Commission (KPU) in one or two days' time.

"Today the President applied for leave in line with the campaigning schedule set by the KPU and relevant government regulations, namely one day per week," he said.

He said the vice president had also applied for leave to the office of the minister/state secretary.

Yudhoyono, Kalla and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri will compete in the presidential race next July.

Hatta said there was no regulation stating that during a leave for presidential campaigning scheduled from June 2 to July 4, one of them must stay in Jakarta.

"What is clear is they will be in Indonesia and no job will left undone. Administrative and state functions will continue. It is not in the law but in essence it is aimed at avoiding overlaps between the two leaders, they should not be in one campaign venue at the same time," he said.

Besides the president and vice president, cabinet ministers were also requested to apply for leave if they planned to participate in campaigning for their political parties.

Hatta is one of the ministers that is applying for leave because he is the chief of the national campaign team for Yudhoyono.

Hatta will take a day's leave every week from June 2 to July 4. "I am the one that has applied for leave. Several other ministers will follow suit soon as we have already asked them to do so," he said.

He said almost all ministers would participate in the campaigning.

According to schedule, Yudhoyono plans to tour 11 cities in the country starting from Merauke in Papua on June 12 and ending in Jakarta on July 4 during the campaign period.***1***
