MEGA-PRO CAMP THINKS ELECTION TO FINISH IN TWO ROUNDS
Jakarta, June 4 (ANTARA) - The success team of the Megawati Soekarnoputri-Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro) ticket admitted that it targeted winning the presidential election on July 8 in two rounds.
"We are realistic. It will finish in two rounds. What matters is that we must win," a team member, Maruarar Sirait, said here on Thursday.
Asked to comment on a candidate who pledged winning the election in just one round. Sirait said it seemed to be an effort to condition public opinion.
"The opinion about finishing the race in one round is very strong," he said.
Sirait who is also a lawmaker from Megawati's Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) said that indeed the cost would be cut if the race could be finished in one round. However, democracy could not be practiced based on budget efficiency.
The Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto camp meanwhile dared not speculate if they could win the race in one round.
"We are just making ourselves ready in case it will finish in one round. What is important we win," the camp's success team deputy chairman, Indra Jaya Piliang, said.
He said he could not confirm whether his camp could win the race in one round or had to face a run-off.
"From academic point of view it is difficult to finish the race in one round because there are three contestants involved in it," he said.
Indra said his camp had already set up success teams across the country in an effort to make Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto win in the election.
Supporters of the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono ticket have vowed to make their candidates able to win the race in one round.
"One round is our target. God willing it will be achieved. We hope we can collect 60 to 68 percent of votes," the chief of the supporters grouped in the Association of Love Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono Communities (Permata SB-Yes), Sutan Batoegena, said.
