IPB WELCOMES JICA OFFER FOR NATURE CONSERVATION COOPERATION
Bogor, Indonesia, June 8 (ANTARA) - The Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) has welcomed an offer by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to establish conservation cooperation in national park management in Indonesia.
A JICA team visited IPB campus in Bogor last May to convey the offer for national park management and park personnel training, Dr Eng Anas Miftah Fauzi, deputy rector of IPB in charge of research and cooperation department, said here on Sunday.
Japan was interested in establishing cooperation in nature conservation management in Indonesia, including sharing of experience in national park management, JICA's team coordinator, Udi Triyototo, said in the meeting.
The JICA team members also included Yoichi Sakurai, Ginzo Aoyama,
Kawamoto Akitoshi, Tadanori Suzuki, Koji Nishida, and Eij Egashira.
Conflicts often occurred in national park management including on the parks' border lines, land zone, land concessionary rights, and responsibility sharing, he said.
Udi Triyototo also talked about strengthening strategies of biological diversity conservation toward proper human resource management.
Meanwhile, training cooperation would include case studies, field surveys, and scientific library reference analysis, he said.
Anas Miftah Fauzi explained that IPB has established research cooperation in national park with various universities in this country, including with Tadulako University (Untad) to manage Lore Lindu National Park in Central Sulawesi Province.
IPB has also established cooperation with Japan's Hokkaido University in peat land management in Central Kalimantan Province, he said.
Indonesia has a lot of national parks, including those on Sumatra Island such as Leuseur, Siberut, Kerinci Seblat, and Way Kambas national parks.
On Kalimantan Island, the national parks are among other things Tanjung Puting, Baka Bukit Raya, Gunung Palung, and Bentuang Karimun. On Java Island, they include Ujung Kulon, Gunung Gede Pangrango,
Gunung Halimun, Karimun Java, and Meru Betiri.
Bali and Nusa Tenggara has national parks such as
Gunung Rinjani, Kelimutu and Komodo. On Sulawesi Island, they include
Bunaken national marine park, Taka Bone Rate, and Lore Lindu. ***
