RI ADVISED NOT FOCUS ON RAW MATERIAL EXPORTS ONLY
RI ADVISED NOT FOCUS ON RAW MATERIAL EXPORTS ONLY
Jakarta, June 9 (ANTARA) - Indonesia should not focus on the export of raw materials only but also on diversified finished products, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) chairman MS Hidyat said.
Indonesia should also carry out export of locally-based creative products offered in franchised packages, the Kadin chairman said at a seminar on the protection of franchise business and business licenses based on the Law on Intellectual Property Rights (HAKI) here on Tuesday.
He said Indonesia should not allow itself to become a recipient of foreign products only but it should also export its own products which are typically Indonesian.
The Kadin chairman said that exporting an Indonesian (HAKI) license and franchise was comparable to introducing Indonesia's culture and its people to the world economy.
Hidayat said earlier that Indonesians making a visit or staying abroad might all want to see Indonesian products on display in the business centers of the world's big cities.
If Vietnamese and Thai restaurants can mushroom in the world market, why Indonesian special foods could not make the same progress.
Hidayat said that many international reputed foreign coffee shops had been operating in Indonesia but why the Indonesian people were not able to produce a franchised-Indonesian coffee shop in the global market.
He said that in the life and development of a business HAKI played an important role in protecting nationally and locally based creative businesses.
Therefore, Kadin needs to popularize HAKI so that it would be able to boost and facilitate the development small and medium scale enterprises and domestic businesses so that they would develop well, he added.
In the meantime, Kadin Deputy Chairman for Small and Medium Businesses and Cooperatives Sandiaga S Uno said recently that the small- and medium-scale business sector in was developing in an encouraging way.
"The national economic growth forecast of 5 percent for 2009 is realistic as the first-quarter economic growth rate reached 4.5 percent," he said.
