SEVEN COUNTRIES CONFIRM PARTICIPATION IN BIF 2009
Semarang, C Java, June 9 (ANTARA) - Seven countries have confirmed their attendance in the Borobudur International Festival (BIF) 2009 from July 16 to 20, 2009.
Head of the Central Java cultural and tourim marketing agency Budiyanto said in Semarang Tuesday the seven countries are India, China, Laos, Thailand, Poland, Japan, and South Korea.
The programs of BIF will include art and cultural performances, trade exhibition, tourism and investment displays, and international seminars, he said.
He also said that the seven countries will present arts and cultural performancers of their respective countries.
Some of the regions in Indonesia which had confirmed their participation in the BIF 2009 include East Java, Greater Jakarta, Lampung, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, North Sulawesi, and Papua.
He said that the introduction of BIF 2009 had actually already been done last year, but to government circles only, and this year the entire nation will be familiarized with the event.
"We hope 35 regencies/cities in Central Java will also send their representatives to the event with a view to luring both domestic and foreign tourists," he said.
It has been reported ealier that 17 countries will be invited to joint the BIF 2009, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the US, Belgium India, Vietnam, South Korea, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
"Actually we give priority to foreign participants in BIF 2009 with a view to promoting the tourist objects and destination in Central Java," he added.
Although many countries had already confirmed participation, there is always a possibility that more other countries would come, he added. ***2***
