SMALL BUSINESSES INVITED TO TAKE PART IN CHINA-ASEAN EXPO

Jakarta, June 9 (ANTARA) - Indonesian micro, small- and medium- scale businesses (UMKMs) have been invited to take part in the Sixth ASEAN-China annual trade and industry expo (CEXPO) to be held in Nanning, Guangxi, China on October 20 to 24, 2009.

The chance for UMKMs to take part in the exhibition was disclosed during an expose on CAEXPO held in cooperation with the National Export Promotion agency (PBEN) here on Tuesday.

The event was attended by CAEXPO Vice President Wang Lei, chief of economic and commercial affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta Gu Shenqian, BPEN secretary A Firdaus Sukmono and a number of industry and trade associations and entrepreneurs.

Besides, other exposes of CAEXPO would also be held in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday and in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday (June 11).

Wang Lei said that CAEXPO which would be held at the International Convention and Exhibition Center would cover indoor stand rooms of 22,500 sqm and outdoor stand rooms of 4,500 sqm with a combined capacity of 3,000 international standard stands.

Indonesia will get stands in Hall 15 consisting of 110 stand plus a pavilion dubbed Cities of Charm. Indonesia will be represented by Surabaya.

Indonesia has been taking part in CAEXPO since it was held for the first time in 2004 but the type of products it was displaying from time to time remain the same, namely handicraft products and natural products with less design and motive creativities.

Most of the attendants of the Indonesia stands were regional government employees, not traders who were actually expected to involve directly in the event so that business contacts could be made with buyers.

On the other hand, stands from other ASEAN countries, including the new comer Cambodia and Laos or Vietnam, appeared more aggressively and actively offered their processed products and their industrial zone areas.***2***
