PERTAMINA TO IMPORT FUEL OILS TO MEET ITS DOMESTIC DEMAND
Jakarta, June 9 (ANTARA) - Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina will import this month 5.7 million barrels of fuel oils in order to meet 30 percent of domestic need, a Pertamina official said.
"Pertamina will began importing diesel oil and premium gasoline this month. It has nothing to do with the incident in the Cilacap refinery plant where the tube of one of its crude units has caught fire," Pertamina's Vice President for communications affairs, Basuki Trikor Putra, said on Monday.
He said that in order to meet normal domestic demand, Pertamina had to import about 30 percent of the need, particularly premium gasoline and diesel oils.
With the 30 percent shortage, Pertamina will import 3.5 million barrels of premium and 2.2 million barrels of diesel oils per month.
"On aviation turbine (avtur) need, we have become self-reliant in the aircraft fuel, so have we on kerosene need," Putra said.
Putra said Indonesia had so far imported fuel oils from Singapore.
Data showed at Pertamina that Indonesia's imports of premium gasoline in April stood at 5.640 million barrels, in May 4.9 million barrels and in June 3.5 million barrels.
Its diesel oil imports in April were recorded at 1.2 million barrels, in May 2.4 million barrels and in June 2.2 million barrels.
Since April, Pertamina has no longer imported avtur as a result of the government's kerosene-to-liquefied petroleum gas conversion program. The surplus of kerosene thanks to the conversion program is processed into avtur fuel.
Pertamina has set a target to increase its oil production this year to 171.9 thousand barrels per day, despite a production decline rate of 18 percent per annum.
The production target this year is higher than that a year earlier which was set at 150 thousand barrels a day.
In order to achieve the target this year, Pertamina will optimize the oil production of its main oil fields in Sukowati, Tambun, Limau and Polent. It would also apply the enhance oil recovery technology.***2***
