AZERBAIJAN SOCIETY OF AMERICA PARTICIPATES IN 24TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL EXPO FEST IN NEW YORK

New York, June 9 (AzerTAc). The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) participated in the 24th Annual International Cultural Expo Fest in New York City on Sunday, June 7, 2009. This was the first participation of ASA at this event, which featured cultural activities from dozens of the diverse ethnic groups that are a part of the New York City population.
ASA presented performances by the outstanding children`s dance troupe, Kavkaz JYC, under the direction of Luba Yusubova. The young Jewish-Azerbaijani descent children carried the flags of Azerbaijan and Israel. The same group performed at ASA`s Novruz celebration last March and continues to work closely with ASA.
ASA was invited to participate in this year`s festival by the Director of Media for International Immigrants Foundation Susana M. Galli in New York.
Azerbaijan Society of America has been involved in numerous festivals in recent years, which offer the opportunity to promote the culture and history of Azerbaijan to the American audience. Last year, the group participated in the international Parade of Flags in Brooklyn, where the Azerbaijani flag was carried in a parade by New York City police, accompanied by a young ASA member in a traditional costume. ASA has also carried the flag of Azerbaijan in New York`s annual Columbus Day Parade and in the Turkish Day Parade since its inception.
