Baku, June 10 (AzerTAc). Delegation of Azerbaijan attended a meeting of the PACE monitoring Committee, which discussed human rights situation in Europe, socio-political processes and other issues.
The focus of the meeting was obligations assumed by PACE member countries. According to member of Azerbaijan delegation Gultekin Hajibeyli, the document presented by co-rapporteur for Azerbaijan Andres Herkel was informative.
Azerbaijan delegation appealed to the PACE leadership to avoid applying double standard while discussing Armenia`s honoring its CoE obligations.
“Applying such principles towards CoE member countries is en evidence of at least biased position of some CoE circles,” appeal said.
In response to this appeal, co-rapporteur for Armenia said people arrested in Armenia may be called political prisoners. Co-rapporteur said the main aim is to urge them to take serious steps and demonstrate a political will.
Hajibeyli noted Armenia`s honoring CoE obligations will be discussed at the June session.
Commenting on human rights situation in Europe report presented at the meeting, the Azerbaijan delegation said there are different criteria in the approach to human rights assessment in member-countries.
