"THERE ARE EXCITING CHANGES UNDERWAY IN AZERBAIJAN”, OUTGOING US AMBASSADOR ANNE DERSE

Baku, June 10 (AzerTAc). “There are exciting changes underway in Azerbaijan. The economy is booming, standards of living are improving. This time of change and progress is a time of opportunity for the press, as well”, stressed outgoing US ambassador to the country Anne Derse at a press conference.
She said “I wanted to share my feelings with you, members of the press, about my departure, so that you can, in turn, let people across Azerbaijan know how much I have appreciated their hospitality and friendship. I leave Azerbaijan with a deep respect for its people, its history and its culture, and for the progress Azerbaijan has made. And I leave with a deep appreciation of the challenges Azerbaijan faces as it charts an independent and democratic future”.
“The United States will be Azerbaijan`s partner for many years. And I will be a lifelong friend of the Azerbaijani people. I have been proud to serve America here in Baku. I have been touched by this wonderful country. And wherever I go in the future, you can be assured I will be telling Azerbaijan`s story and cheering for its successes”.
Touching upon her future diplomatic activity, Mrs. Derse said “Last week President Obama announced that he will nominate me as his envoy to Lithuania. In our system, the President doesn’t have all the power. Once President Obama formally sends my nomination to the Senate, I will await Senate confirmation”.
